'Twas the FMS Holiday Playlist
We love the holiday season because it’s a time of creativity, generosity, goodwill, love and laughter. We're feeling extra festive this year and decided to create an FMS playlist of our favorite holiday songs for all of our clients and friends to hear. Below is each person's favorite Christmas song and why.
O Holy Night by Il Divo
This is a great doxology. It elevates the glory of God in Christmas.
Joy to the World by Mahalia Jackson
Since I was a little girl, I have always loved this. It never fails to give me goosebumps. Can’t believe I grew up to have a daughter with a beautiful voice that’s just as awesome!
Last Christmas by Wham
George Michael’s vocal delivery is smoother than silk. And then there’s the beat!
Little Drummer Boy by Pentatonix.
When I was 8 years old, living in Chicago, the claymation came on TV and it made a huge impact on my life. I loved how beautiful it was to see the drummer boy playing for Jesus. I cried like a baby. I still get choked up. Excuse me a minute.
Away In A Manger
My mom used to sing this song to us whenever we had trouble falling asleep - whether it was the Christmas season or not. It always makes me feel nostalgic
Hallelujah from Handel’s Messiah: A Soulful Celebration
While not technically a Holiday song, this version of the song has been a part of our family since my kids were babies. It always makes the holidays feel like a celebration.
The Christmas Song
My absolute favorite version is the one my dad plays. He used to play and sing this for our family on the acoustic guitar each Christmas Eve, before we read The Night Before Christmas. The closest one to that is Nat King Cole’s version.
What Child is This? by Johnny Mathis
I grew up listening to Johnny Mathis Christmas songs on a record player the size of an entertainment unit (technology back then!). I love the story of this song.
The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole
When I was little and heard this song, it enchanted me and I always thought, “when I grow up this is what my family’s Christmas will be like.” It’s the perfect Christmas Song
Tennessee Christmas by Amy Grant
When I was a little girl, we moved from California to Tennessee. After being at my new school for a month, we did a Christmas play and we had to sing Christmas songs. One of those songs was Tennessee Christmas. When I hear it now, it reminds me of my first Christmas in Tennessee and it makes me so happy!
Little Saint Nick by the Beach Boys
I recognize this probably isn’t the greatest Christmas song, but, for some reason, my sisters and I loved it when we were kids. We would listen to it over and over and over again so it brings back wonderful childhood memories of Christmas with my family.
Someday at Christmas by Stevie Wonder
This Song reminds me of my dad. When I was a kid he would play this song and lyrically it always moved me. as i got older and began to realize the meaning of this song, it's become a holiday favorite – a reminder of the true spirit of Christmas.
Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee
I find that it’s the best song to sing at the top of my lungs during any and every holiday activity - baking, wrapping presents, decorating, etc. (Or even when responding to a co-worker’s email about Christmas songs.)
Mary Did You Know
I love how soulful this song and this performance are.
Show Me the Magic by Jamie Cullum
I mean, really, who doesn't love magic?
Happy holidays from all your friends at FMS!
